Dendrobium Enobi
4 Attachment(s)
This is a hybrid between Den Enobi 'Pink Splash x Purple Splash'.
I do not grow Dendrobium very well. Over the years I've tried to grow them. Surprisingly this plant has lived with me for four years now. It has bloomed every year. This year it has bloomed very large flowers. |
WOW what a beautiful flower! The color is amazing, I'd say you grow this Dendrobium very well.
I grow only the miniature Dendrobium, nothing like your plant. This is impressive, congratulations! |
I think that you have done a pretty good job with that one over the last four years!

Thanks Patty. I can honestly say, that growing this plant has been hit or miss. When I got it from the vendor, it had three pseudobulbs and was in bloom. This one in flower was the first growth for me. It bloomed two years ago. It skipped last year to grow instead two pseudo bulbs which each have leaves. But probably won't bloom until next year. When I put it out this spring I accidentally snapped a small bulb growing from the base, so I presume, since it had no where to go, it decided to bloom?

Nice job, great color. I find these most rewarding to grow!

I am watering this plant every third day. It is under lights, and a fan that moves air. I'm keeping the humidity at 50% Do you have any advise?. ---------- Post added at 10:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:59 PM ---------- Quote:

My problem with many Dendrobiums is they do not tolerate drying out for very long during the growing season - that means they don't want to be dry for more than a few hours, if ever. If you let them stay dry for just one day while pushing a new growth you might lose the growth.
They cannot be watered on the same schedule as my Cattleyas. If I had time to look at them every day and water every 1-2 days I think they would grow like weeds. Enobi is in the Den. phalaenopsis or Phalaenanthe group. |
My den Phals have leafless canes that bloom for several years. I'm not sure having fully leafed canes is a reasonable expectation...just my 2 cents. In any case, you succeeded and your plant is beautiful. I'll send you a picture of my old, battered, bald, but faithful, NOID den Phal. She's ugly but a flowering powerhouse. This year she grew a lovely keiki which I just sent to a friend.

I used to grow them just like, and with my phals...until old faithful out grew that space. It moved and more followed. Now I water 2x weekly instead of the once my phals take. I also give them oncidium level light.
