Cymbidium aloifolium
 

This came from Ray when he was moving. It needed repotting then but I never got a round tuit. It had one inflorescence that faded about a week ago, and now has two more.

I water and fertilize it sporadically. It was sitting on the concrete slab in my sunroom, right next to a window that gets a few hours of direct morning sun. This is a very hot site, and a lot of other plants would not be able to tolerate that kind of sun.

I didn't see the first inflorescence at first. It emerged towards the window, and snaked along the ground. I went into the sunroom one day and smelled something. A little poking around revealed the hidden flowers.

Need some help! I bought an aloifloium off ebay about 3 years ago and have never got it flower. It grows well, especially when I put it outside for the summer. Unfortunately, it has never flowered when I bring it in for the winter. I thought it needed more a cold jolt (I usually bring them all in before the temps get below 50 deg F. So the plan is to let my cyms sit out until just above freezing.
Given your normal temps are you able to give them that jolt?

Not all Cymbs need cold to flower. Mine never went below about 50 F / 5C. My growing room is hot to hellish during the late summer and early fall, the period during which many Cyms need cool nights to form buds. So this species does not need cooling to flower.

I would guess your problem is insufficient light through the year. My plant is in a spot where many cacti would sunburn.

After posting I realized I took the photos at low resolution. I'll try to do better eventually.

The house isn't really that pink. It's closer to terra-cotta color. I have a nice cheap phone.

That's a very nice flower vine! Wish paphs or bulbos could "flower vine" like that :) I like the colors, cream and maroon
