Ever heard of a staurochilus? (Staurochilus Luzonensis)

Finally found this rare orchid even for me in my area hehe. It got its name from the biggest island here in the Philippines, Luzon, which this orchid is widely distributed. It has these little cute wild looking flowers with a long sword like fuzzy lip. Hoping to encounter more rare species :)

That's really nice, the spike and stem looks like a phalaenopsis, but those blooms look like a vanda with something else thrown in. It will look terrific when the blooms all open.

Two questions; is it scented? How long do the blooms last?

It doesn't seem to have a fragrance but the blooms I think can last 3-4 weeks more or less :)

Hi! Is this a large plant? Or a tiny one?
I love the spots!

PaphMadMan 04-15-2017 09:34 AM

Looks rather like Arachnis x Phalaenopsis. We really should see more of these.

I think this plant resembles a narrow leaf Phal, but others can be more Vanda-like or tall stems with short broad leaves. You may also see this as Trichoglottis luzonensis. I think most Staurochilus species have been moved (back) to that genus.

Would you please show us the whole plant?

I've heard of them and read a little about them in the past. I'm not sure I've seen one in person. Love the flowers, but then I have a soft spot for spots and I like the color yellow. It's putting on a really nice display.

This plant is kinda big. somewhat phalaenopsis but vanda like. Trichoglottis luzonensis is actually accepted as a synonym of this orchid but i'll still check on that :)
