Coelogyne usitana

After almost two long years, I present Coelogyne usitana!

It arrived almost 2 years ago with a broken spike. As you can see from varying degrees of sunburn, I tried multiple light intensities. The time the new growth emerged to the bloom was painfully long. Grown semi-hydro.

Oh, yeah, that's another spike starting in front.

Sweet. Mine has been sitting on a mount for the past year, and is finally throwing two shoots. No flowers yet tho.

What a delight! Thanks for sharing.

Great job! What did you learn about light, temperature and the like?

I don't know that I learned anything new. As I've said before many times, change a variable by trial and error. And a lot of patience!

I suppose I learned "low light" has a huge range!

I like the dark lip. I really, REALLY like the dark lip. Hope it stays like that.

She wore Red Velvet
Redder than velvet was the lip
Softer than satin was the light

twinofmunin 04-15-2017 03:00 PM

Ooooh, how exciting! My seedling is still plugging along... how long have you had yours in S/H?

rbarata 04-15-2017 03:10 PM

That's a beautiful flower! Congratulations on your successful recovery (not yours...the plant:biggrin:).

AnonYMouse 04-16-2017 03:31 AM

It's been in S/H since the beginning.

As I was cutting away the bract to see what was going on, this happened

It's not a total disaster since this is also happening

So sorry. I have no idea. Somebody who grows Coelogynes might recognize the syndrome.

You're probably familiar with this:
Coelogynes.com

Because the author of that page is in Australia I think temperatures are in degrees C.

AnonYMouse 05-01-2017 12:31 PM

The affected leaf is gone with the bract. Pretty much the whole growth. Just a stump left.

Anticipation, is keeping me wai-ai-ai-ai-aiting

This is a bit fussy about light, I guess. Since the last time I posted it here, it got moved multiple times and finally...the sweet spot.

Which is?
