Red Den. speciosum growths
 

Anybody out there have speciosum that throws red growths? This is the most intense this particular plant has thrown for me; I suspect it'll throw 1-2 more before the summer is over. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...de007d9b97.jpg

Is it still pretty cold where you live? A lot of succulents are that dark reddish color in what they believe to be cold weather.

While mine is outside it gets full sun most of the day. The growths start out red but turn green as they mature.

My gh is about a mile from the pacific; it's usually 75-85 daytime, as low as 45 at night. I grow speciosum under 50% shade; I've burned a few going 30% or less

Looks like speciosum v. pendunculatum; the one above is likely v. blackdownense

Indeed it is pedunculatum.

i've seen many different speciosums with red leaves like that, i think it's super pretty... if it's pedunculatum, that's a cool variety for sure...

interesting you can't go more than 50%, here in SoCal, many growers put them out in full sun, maybe limited obstruction by a tree or house... I think if you acclimate it you should be able to go higher especially at a higher latitude...

Looks like variety blackdownense. I have two of them, and their new growths are the same color as those on your plant. Additionally, while some of my other speciosums do develop new growths that are somewhat red in color, the intensity is nowhere near as vibrant as those of the two blackdownense plants (and they all grow in the same area, so it's not a matter of the plants with more intense colored leaves getting any different levels of light than those that don't develop the same color intensity). The dark color will eventually change to the same standard green as the others.

Your plant looks very healthy, by the way. Please post some pictures when it blooms for you.
