Maybe TMI - fertilizer ??
Ok ...
I breastfeed my Daughter and I recently had an idea to use her urine to fertilize my orchids. Ok... Sounds weird and crazy but I eat organic , mostly raw foods. Ok... There is research where people use Urine in unusual ways. Yes ... I am the one who waters with hot water !!! Lol Yes... My orchids have been doing A hell of a lot better since doing this... No... Do not bash me for trying new ideas... May work for me and not for others... I dilute it by adding 10x the water or more. I don't measure it exactly. My Duaghter had been doing EC since 6 weeks and I thought I might as well use this for something. Lol!! Sorry if it was TMI Thanks for reading |
Most human urine, even from breast-fed babies, has some sodium chloride. This is not good for plants. Other components of urine will help microorganisms grow in your orchid medium; this may or may not be a good thing.

No idea what EC is as you are using it. To me, EC is electrical conductivity which is not something you can "do".
I advise against this. I agree that the reason for not using urine is not the TMI factor, but instead the TM salt factor. Also, if these are indoor plants, they could start smelling like urine after a while. If you are determined to try it, you should take a urine sample to an environmental lab (label it as wastewater so they know how to handle it), analyze for electrical conductivity (or total dissolved solids), potassium, sodium, phosphorus, chloride and total nitrogen. First rays.com has a calculator for working out fertilizer dilutions. Save yourself time, money and problems. Go to Lowes, buy one of the water soluble orchid fertilizers they have, use that at 1/4 of whatever dilution is recommended on the package. |
I can only add that Jerry Baker, the garden guy say's to us it for your lawn for the nitrogen. He uses it in some of his mixes. I have never tried it as I'm just not going there. I do use some of his mixes just not the pee ones.

---------- Post added at 11:51 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:48 AM ---------- I only put it on the orchids potted up in lava rock. And it is very diluted. I read about urine therapy and how urine is used to cure a lot of things. I used it to remove a planters wart my son had on his foot. Urine itself it sterile when it leaves the body. I though it might be a good since she is receiving all nutrients thru breast milk and organic foods she has. The rocks don't leave a smell either. |
Urinating on jellyfish stings is where this begins and ends for me! Big fan of recycling but...hmmmmm.
