Endless Summer
We have had a 8 month summer that is trying to make it 9 months. Temp for tomorrow is 27c to 17c(80.6f to 62.6)
This Dendrobium D.bigibbum(("Blue Horizon" x "Blue") x Blue Carol)) x D. bigibbum "Alba" came out of a flask in last september and 4 weeks ago it flowered. Massive growing season here and still going. So Blessed! http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps7m6etp9m.jpg |
Nice bloom. Wow that was fast.

Thank you for the comment.
It is the 1st orchid bloom I have ever had. We have 2 x 8 month old orchids in bloom and they share some of the same parentage. Very similar flowers in size, shape & colour. Had another spike 1 month earlier on a different plant but it budded and then died. The Cattleya's have grown nicely but a lot of the Dendrobium's have really got to a size. We are very shocked that we got some flower 1st growing year. Looking forward for the next 6 to 12 months to see how many orchids will flower. |
They must be happy seems like most people have to wait several years before they see blooms. I will be waiting for more pics.

Summer slowly comes to an end.
Night temp have gone under 10c or 50f last couple of nights. Day are still over 25c or 77f but the fire is on of a night now. This weather is where my Grammatophyllum starts to tough it out. Getting close to the shortest day of the year for us here. So the beginning of the end of another growing season ends. |
It is strange to hear that coming from another hemisphere! I've been freezing my bum off here, and just the thought of laying in a lawn chair with the sun beaming down on me brings my heart joy. Gosh, I hope winter is not terrible down under!
|
Yes it always seems funny when we are starting our summer you people down under are going into winter.
|
Wish you people the best growing season. Yes it does seem strange that we are going into winter in a couple of days. But our day temp is still around 30c or 86f.
We are very blessed with weather here. It never really get cold but a friend in Tasmania freeze to the bone most of the year. They get the winds from the Antarctic and there is no land to stop that wind before it hits them. The worst of the convicts were sent to Tasmania and jail in sandstone rooms with only light cloths and very little bedding. Just horrible! |
I can relate to that as I don't have much to stop the wind either. It would be nice to have the better weather but oh well. You have a nice winter ours wasn't to bad this year.

kg5, how many degrees south are you?
