Paph. philippinense in spike!

Just bought at our March orchid society show and wasn't expecting it to start pushing out a spike. So exciting!
Paph. philippinense x sib ('Miao Hua' SM/TOGA x 'Mercury' SM/TPS)

In third pic...Should I remove the entire leaf with the brown spot at the base or just try to cut out the brown area? It isn't wet or mushy, the leaf underneath isn't affected, and the rest of the leaf appears healthy.

Personally I leave stuff like that unless it is some fast moving rot. Otherwise I just wait and pull/cut it off when it dries up. I don't like to make a cut into moist tissue as it makes a wound for infection, just my belief.

Are you growing it in S/H? Looks nice.

Yes, repotted it into S/H at the end of March as soon as I got it. Hope it'll like it. :)

I wouldn't touch the leaf. That's what mine look like when they get old and start dying back. If your growing area has conditions that lead to faster transpiration from the leaves than the plant experienced at the grower, and you just repotted, the plant may not have enough roots to supply all the water the leaves need. The plant prunes older leaves to minimize its water loss. In your case it's not only pushing a new bud, it's pushing a new growth.

I would not start cutting off anything. Unless it is mushy and starting to spread.

Don't touch!!!! I tried to do that to a seedling I have and tore the top 2 leaves off. Left the poor little thing with 1 leaf. It is finally starting a new one.

Ooooh, so exciting! My very first long petal paph. The bud itself seems so tiny, but the petals grow fast. Two centimetres in one day!

Looking good! They seem to take so long to actually bloom!

I don't know if it's just excitement, but this multi spike seems quicker than my other non-multi paphs. It's only been a month to get to this point. Or will it still be some time now? Will the flower itself grow in size as it develops?
