Phragmipedium Acker's Flare
Phragmipedium Acker's Flare (Jason Fischer x Beauport)
I did not expect this to bloom again this year, because it's a very reluctant bloomer. I think now that I'm growing it in shadier conditions, it may be happier. The foliage is larger and the plant seems over all healthier on the bottom shelf, so that may be its permanent growing spot. I hope it starts to bloom regularly. This time around it's got 2 flower spikes -- another growth is just starting to produce the second spike, so this plant will be putting on a nice little show for me for a while. The color on this is really nice. Nice and solid and velvety. http://i.imgur.com/VY9muVMl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/QMKg7QWl.jpg I would love to see outcome of this crossed with P. dalessandroi, particularly if it resulted in more yellow on and around the lip and staminode and/or branching flower spikes. |
Very cute or at least it looks small. I have never heard of the Beauport, what is it?

Phrag. Hanne Popow = besseae x schlimii Phrag. Jason Fischer = besseae x Mem. Dick Clements Phrag. Mem. Dick Clements = besseae x sargentianum So, if my math is correct, this is 50% besseae, 37.5% sargentianum, 12.5% schlimii. I'd classify this hybrid as mid-sized. It doesn't get terribly tall, so in that respect it's good for under light growing. It takes up more space than my small growers, but it's definitely nowhere near as large as my Sunset Glows or Grandes. It does however have a tendency to try and climb out of the pot, something it did when it was growing in higher light as well, so I think it's just naturally leggy. |
Lovely!

Thanks a bunch. It must be all the besseae in there. I do believe I read that on here once that it does that. I have wanted one for a long time but this kind of stops me. The climbers are a pain in the you know what. I never know what to do with them.
