Renanthera citrina

When I saw the pics posted by Bud on this plant, I searched high and low for this plant. Only after travelling 12 hours in January through the blizzard to Nashua did I find it from Kirstie of Parkside (Thanks doll!). And to top of, it came into spike in early April and graced me these beautiful bright yellow blooms! So enchanting with those maroon spots on the yellow background! I know it's still a young plant and the spike and blooms will get bigger, but I'm in heaven now ;)

Thanks Bud for the inspiration!

No mention of fragrance? What is this world coming to?

I like Renantheras as well, though I don't believe I have the light for them and over time they can get a bit tall to fit under the stands. I do like to see them, though. Really neat flowers.

I have seen this on eBay, in fact I am watching one now. Seeing how lovely your plant is Lesley, is nudging me to bidding on it.

Take the plunge Matt! You won't regret it. It blooms only 6 inches tall! I am collecting all the mini renantheras (monachica, bella, imshootiana, histrionica).

Mr. Potter, they do need south light and can tolerate low 60F. And just top them (chop) if they get too tall :)

And a light fragrance in morning only for me.

Lesley, I did take the plunge--you are such an enabler!! I now have Renanthera imshootiana, monachica, and citrina. There is a histrionica for sale on eBay, but I don't care for its appearance. I have seen references for the bella but haven't found one for sale. Since these are small plants, I'll make room for them! I do have some experience with the Neofinetia x Renenthera hybrids, but the species, will be interesting to grow.

I have owned the imshootiana since November 2013--very slow growing. I think I need to grow it warmer. It has been with my Neofinetia.

I'm going to move it and when the other two arrive, I'll keep it with my Cattleya. Any other tips to growing these plants?

Congrats on getting the citrina! You will be happy when it blooms!

The imshootiana needs a lot of light (cattleya and above, 6 hours plus of sun) and warmer temperatures in day to grow well. Night temp can go low to 15C. I feel all of them can grow the same with cattleyas. They need spraying of roots daily been cloudy days but early enough to dry by nightfall. Feed heavy in summer and reduce other times. Good luck!

My monachica has three spikes so will post pics soon.

I love the growth habit of the Reanthera! I bought a monachica in October. I love the little thing and is growing a big fat root! I think its a little young for spikes yet, though. Yours is very nice.

The monachica is a good strong grower and blooms small too. Good luck!
