Seeking native NW Ontario orchids (Thunder Bay)

Hello:

I must admit I am very new to the orchid scene. Last year I promised myself to start enjoying the beautiful flora and fauna of Northwestern Ontario. I live in Thunder Bay which has the distinction of being on the margin of both the Great Lakes Forest and Boreal Forest. While conducting some online research I learned there are over 30 species of indiginous orchids in this area so I set out looking for them. I am pleased to report that during orchid season last year, I located and photographed 11 differerent species.

My interest lies in the orchids of my city (Thunder Bay), the surrounding area, which would extend to the Lake Superior Basin, Great Lakes Forest and Boreal Forest. I am a staunch conservationist and firmly believe in photographing these beauties "in situ" and would never consider disturbing them.

I have photos of the orchids I have located to date and am willing to share them with those who hold a similar interest.

I look forward to learning and sharing with other members.
