Phragmipedium Sunset Glow

Phragmipedium Sunset Glow 4N (Eric Young 'Rocket Fire' 4N x Mem. Dick Clements 'Rocket Flash' 4N)

This is the absolute best of the bunch I have. Its only flaw is that it is prone to toothiness, so I assume it wouldn't score highly in judging. The flower is much larger than the others, the color is good for the hybrid, and it is by far my favorite flower shape from the group.

The foliage is also the largest of its siblings, in fact, it is significantly larger than the others and I think it's the largest slipper in my collection. Even though I grow under lights and don't have a lot of space, the beautiful flowers on this particular clone have earned it a permanent spot with me.

All that you've posted are mahvelous! I'm starting to give mine more light than I'd previously done since blooms are few and far between.

Beautiful! The large size is probably because it's a 4N.

Yeah, generally speaking nearly all the phargs will grow faster and bloom more often if you grow them in higher light, similar to what you'd give a lot of multifloral paphs, oncidiums and even dendrobiums.

There are exceptions, though. I'm finding that schlimii and some of its hybrids are healthier when I give them shadier conditions, growing side by side with my parvies (paphs).

The extra genes definitely contribute, though it's surprising how much bigger this particular plant's foliage is compared to its flask mates.

Nice! I love this one.

Wow that does look like a big flower, it's got huge petals compared to what little I know of Phrags! Good growing.

Thanks for the info on giving them higher light. I've got Olaf Gruss that is not happy with me at all. Coupled with my under-watering tendencies I'll bet I've got it in too dark of a location. I'm going to move it tomorrow. ;)
