2 Dendobium rigidum
Two slightly different rigidums...both still stink. I think they smell like mothballs and if it weren't for the fact that they are such easy growers and so happy to put on a big display...I would get rid of them. The smell gags me.
One has larger leaves and a pink tinge to the flowers and the other has much smaller leave and the flowers are more just a pale yellow tone. The 2 side by side - not a great pic but you get the idea http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps1c110d1f.jpg The larger/pink tinged one...I think this one is nicer. http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps2d5c7bc0.jpg The smaller leaved, plainer flowered one... http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/p...ps1d5c17d2.jpg Lots of sun and quick dry roots but other than that...very fuss free plants. Oh, BTW - the potted one is really in a teeny tiny clay pot w/a few bits of charcoal...but I set the smaller pot inside that bigger one (4") to keep the plant from tipping over. In the Summer it hangs from a rack w/my mounts. |
I love the variety of orchids you grow!

Adorable plants... I have these in bloom but their smell is nothing compare to my Bulbophyllum echinolabium that stinks up my living room lol

I have this one too. It is an interesting plant with its succulent-like leaves and small stature. Thank you Katrina for posting your plants as I had no idea how to grow it. Like Leslie's mine has no scent.

Leslie -- I hear ya on the bulbo stinks! I've had a few over the years that had to go because I couldn't take the stink. EWWWWW! Mothballs smell better than dog s**t.
Matt -- they like a good deal of water during the warmer months but prefer to have their roots dry off fast. If I treated any of my other orchids like I do this one in the Winter...I think they would shrivel away to nothing. The only reason they are still in my collection is because I find them to be very easy growers and they reward neglect. Thanks for the comment guys- glad you like them! |
They're fantastic, Katrina! Great growing!

Hi all thanks for sharing. I have a couple of these tiny succulent ones but none have bloomed for me so far!
