…for anyone who will give her a good home.

Hello everyone. I am sad that I must part with my big Vanda but it has grown too large for my greenhouse plus I’m having difficulty raising it back up into hanging position after I soak it in it’s bucket. It has bloomed often and has gone keike wild. As long as I have had it, it has soaked in fertilizer water each day (and seaweed water about once each month…starting approx.. 2 yrs. ago).

Before I go on, I should tell you that I will not be able to ship it (I’m sorry)…so anyone interested will have to pick it up here at my home. I live in north-central Alabama.

I am sending photos of my Vanda, but they are random and are in no specific order as to the date each photo was taken…although I had dated one 2001, which I know is wrong because I haven’t been growing orchids that long. I have been trying my hand at them about 8 years and this Vanda is approx. that old. I bought it at Lowes’ when it was a bag baby only a few inches tall and now it is between 3 ˝-4 feet tall…top of plant to bottom of roots. As I was a very new grower when I purchased it, it didn’t cross my mind that the plant would grow as large as it has and where I would put it if it did (duh me). It has many keikes and one is spiking with new buds at the moment. I can’t remember exactly what the tag said it’s name is because it dropped into the Vanda’s watering bucket sometime since I have had it and was lost when I changed the water (approx. every 2 weeks). I do remember the tag read “Robert” in it’s name. As you can see, the blooms are quite large and are a pretty blueish-purple shade.

I am posting this in the “Orchids For Sale, Trade, Free..etc.” forum as well as the "Beginner" forum in hopes more people will see my post.

Back to photos, I do not have one as of today (because I have not had time to take one)...but I will try to this afternoon or tomorrow morn. if you ask...no problem.

I feel that I may have left out info that would answer any questions you may have, so please ask and I will try to answer.

Thank you for reading,
Vicki

That's a beautiful plant!

That is so beautiful, I wish I lived closer. It probably is Robert's Delight. If no one claims it on this board, I would contact a local orchid society to see if they would pick it up for their raffle table or auction. I wish you luck finding a good home for this beauty.

That's one of the prettiest vandas I've seen. It makes me wish I wasn't in So. California.

I hope you removed some of the keikes for yourself to enjoy. I also wish I was close to you as I would love to of had one of the keikes from it. This orchid is just beautiful.

Thank you so much, and I'll pass your compliment on to Ms. Vanda....she will appreciate your comment.

I'm sure she would enjoy your growing conditions, so if you lived within a reasonable distance, I would be glad to give her to you.

I wish I lived in Georgia still, I'd hop right over and adopt it!

The name could be V. Robert's Delight Blue. I bought several bag baby vandas from Lowe's and Home Depot and one of them is named that.

I'd pay for shipping if you would consider boxing it up and shipping it out : )

I knew of no way to remove any keikes...the roots are intwined (sp.?) together tightly.

Yes, I wish you lived close to me, also. You could have had the entire plant because I'm sure you would have given it a good home.

Yes, Georgia wouldn't have been an unreasonable distance to travel. You could have certainly adopted her if you were still living there.

You're probably correct that V. Robert's Delight is her name.....thanks for the info.

As for shipping, I wouldn't have minded, but I couldn't imagine how to do that, so it's not an option. I'm sorry. My Vanda is very healthy and I definitely wouldn't want to harm it by being an amateur packer.

Thanks for your reply...
Happy growing!

Thank you and my Vanda would thank you for your compliment, as well.

I didn't know of an orchid society within many miles from here and had no idea how to have contacted one.

Also, thanks for the good luck wish.

Beautiful plant, you have grown it very well!

I wish I had room, but will have to pass as well. I am confident you will find it a good home. If not with a member of orchidboard, I bet that a university conservatory would love to have it.

Beautiful plant! You can always gift it to a botanical garden for the public to enjoy! They will gladly take such a stately specimen!
