Encyclia cordigera- First bloom

Two blooms on this little one. The color is great, but hopefully the lip will open up a bit next year.

Very nice! Is it scented?

isurus79 04-29-2014 01:03 PM

It is supposed to be scented, but I haven't detected any fragrance yet.

Try giving it a whiff in the early mornings, just as the light hits the flower. :)

Beautiful flower. Give it more humidity and you will notice the fragrance.

Usually thats the same advice I give to Encyclia growers who haven't yet detected a scent from their blooms. It didn't work for me!

I'm growing this one outside so I don't have any control over the humidity, but I did try to smell it the other morning when I swear I could have swam through the air to my neighbor's apartment!! lol No scent though!!

I think it just might be a first bloom flaw. I hope!!

And thanks for the compliments everyone!

Ah.. sorry it didn't work. I have a phal that I was told had a scent when I bought it. Supposedly it smells like oranges... I didn't notice anything for a couple of days and read someone on OB offering that advice, then got up early one morning and walked over and gave it a whiff...

Well, I'm not sure that scent is oranges at all. It smells sort of like oranges, I guess, if they were mixed with a bottle of new car smell. LOL!

My Encyclia randii bloomed but I did not smell anything until 4-5 days later. So, may be yours is just taking time like mine.
