Dendrobium Little Green Apples
(Dendrobium Green Elf X Dendrobium convolutum)
This orchid plant gave me substantial long lasting flowers with subtle hues of lime to chartreuse green petals of granny apple tinges depending on the light. Because of the influence of the Dendrobium alexandrae grandparent, the petals show maroon to mahogany spotting, making the flower attractive from any angle....at the center is an amazing deep lime green lip with bold dark red veining.... this hybrid is the best of both parents catching your eye by having vivid dramatic color combination. I have seen pictures of this orchid plant produce spikes with up to six flowers….but mine has only three on each spike….oh well, maybe next blooming cycle I will get more flowers. I am just glad to also get three new basal keikis that came out with the flowers. This is in Dendrobium mix potted in a 4 inches square plastic (out of nowhere I discover moss growing on the surface of the mix) I feed it with k-lite fertilizer and seaweed mix weekly weakly…. I follow the Baker culture for Dendrobiums and let the mix dry before I water again ….in winter I lessen the water to every ten days and hold the fertilizer for when I see new growths or buds, then I resume my regular watering and fertilizer regimen. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3691/...637789e59a.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7170/...a0b58096d7.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7386/...b6ff2af378.jpg https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2916/...870069e1ef.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7395/...40d50119a3.jpg |

Thanks for this post! I've been looking for info on these 'little green apples', mostly about the watering regime.

Wow very nice.

Very nice, Bud! The green blooms are so unusual compared to the mostly purple, pink or white ones that I usually see. Congratulations!

Very pretty Bud, I really really love the color of the blooms! Gorgeous!
