Excited! While watering today I discovered that the miniature "Daruma-type" Sedirea I posted in an earlier thread this winter, is growing its first spike. I've had this plant for at least a couple of years now and it's in a 2.5" pot, so that's a nice surprise. I wonder if the blooms are going to be the same size as on standard, larger plants. :-)

The blooms will be a little larger size of a US Quarter. They will last a couple of weeks and are very fragrant.

Love the look of your plant with nice green leaves and roots, and oh the possibility of scented blooms to come. Have you always had the plant mounded on moss?

Thank you Matt and Georgia. Crossing my fingers and looking forward to the blooms and fragrance.

Yes, I've mounted this little orchid in sphagnum moss traditional Japanese-style since the beginning. It's sitting on a high ball of moss and the pot has a large cavity for the roots to grow and dry quickly. It's been doing really well like that.

Are you sure that's a spike. Mine has something that looks almost identical, but I'm pretty sure it's a root. I hope I'm wrong!

I hesitated at first too. But I'm pretty sure it's a spike, pointing upward and flatter than the usual root tip. I guess I'll know for sure soon enough. ;-)

Photo update 2 weeks later. Spike still growing. Something else is peeking out too. Not sure what it is yet.

Oh, how exciting for you! Can I ask for more information re: the care you give and how you got it to bloom?
