Cute mini NoID
This is one of the few NoID:s I have left, since "The Great Phal Purge" that took place this summer. This little guy is one I wrote about when I started my orchid obsession. When I brought it home, and checked the roots, I got a very nasty surprise, since it didn't have a good root system (most of them had rotted away).
I've now had it for a year and a half, slightly longer than that actually, and it has recovered fine I think. I personally think it resembles a Phal. Jiaho's Pink Girl pretty much, so that's what I call it to remember what it looks like (yes, it's a NoID, but it's to help me remember). It's fragrant too, which I like very much. http://www.neovita.com/orkideer/bild...68409.orig.jpg |
That is a very pretty little noid, and the fragrance is a nice bonus too ! :)

Yes, you have a Phalaenopsis Jaiho's Pink Girl (P. schilleriana x Zuma's Pixie). This is exactly how mine looks. It is a miniature Phal and it is fragrant. The scent seems strongest in the morning. Relatively speaking, I think you got a great deal, as I bought mine from a vendor for a lot more! You have a beautiful NOID version.

I love the shading and the pretty little spots. Fragrance is certainly a real plus.

Thanks guys! :D
The sad part is that we've had NO sunshine for over a week I think, so the fragrance is so weak that I can barely smell it. :( Quote:

If it isn't a phal, then it must be a doritaenopsis. There are a lot of phals on the market that are this hybrid.

I have this plant and it's one of my favorites, but the darned thing dropped all of its blooms on me the minute I got it home! That said, it's growing really well for me. I repotted it into a jello pudding cup with phal bark that I broke up into about half inch pieces, leaving a few larger pieces for airflow. Two new leaves, loads of new roots and I'm hoping it will spike for me soon. Though it has this odd propensity for leaning over in the cup. I've had to prop it with a teeny stake that I made from a bamboo skewer. :)
So far, I love the plant and think it's a good grower compared to some of my other phals. |
Pink Girl is what came to my mind when I first saw this picture before reading the text.
I saw this tiny but very very pretty phal two years in a row at NY orchid show. I wanted one but the little thing was quite highly marked, and I had a bunch of dendrobiums and other stuff on hand, so never picked it up. Yes, it does have some nice scent as a bonus! Great job bringing it back to health! I am nursing one mini (white with red lip) phal for about a year now. I bought it with tons of little flowers, but within one week, all the flowers dropped. roots were a mess. I wondered how it stayed looking so good at the store. anyhow, I paid a lot of money for that NOID, so I was determined to bring it back to life. It has been very slow recovery but did grow new roots and leaves, but the whole thing is about half the size. I think another year before I see flowers. Enjoy your pink cutie! |

It's a really good little mini and doesn't take up a lot of space either. :) Quote:
Too bad you didn't get the Pink Girl. It's such a cute addition to the collection, and it's small so it fits everywhere. :D |
