My phalaenopsis was sunburned and I need help!
Hello!
I recently acquired a phalaenopsis of unknown breed from someone at my job, and I messed up hardcore! Knowing nothing about orchid, I left it out in the sun for a few days about a week ago. The the damaged, exposed parts of the leaves began to turn yellow-green and became somewhat squishy. Following the American Orchid Society's advice videos, I cut the bad parts of the leaves off using sterile instruments. I've had it for almost two weeks and have watered it once. The sphagnum is a little moist, but the top is dry, I don't know if it has rotting roots or what. The new leaf is still growing, so I take it as a good sign. But I don't know what to do! Your advice would be most appreciated. I would post a link to a picture but the forum denies it every time. Here is an album, excuse the spam filter bypassing. imgur[.]com/a/1jdTz#0 |

If it's growing a new leaf, my best advice would be to just take care of it (in less sun) - water when the potting medium is very nearly dry. There isn't really anything that can be done, other to just care for the plant, and be patient while it grows. Links can be posted after you have made five posts. (trying to prevent spammers) |
Sorry your Phal isn't doing well, I agree with WhiteRabbit, you just have to give it time, it's growing a new leaf, so that is really good! ;) In the mean-time, you might just need to go out, and get another orchid that has flowers on it! that'll make you feel all better while you wait for your first Phal to recover :coverlaugh:
One important tip about orchids, they require you to have/gain patience, they take their pretty little time to grow, so don't expect anything fast. ;) A good Phal growing resource, is this thread: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ends-here.html take your time reading thru it, there's a lot of info, but it is really very helpful. Glad you've joined the forum!! This place is great, and everybody here loves to help! It is truly a wonderful place! Just to warn you, orchids can get very addicting! You will have to watch out here on the OB, because there's a lot of enablers on here, and you might just find yourself with more than a few orchids one of these days... :coverlaugh: |
Ok, good to know that I haven't lost it! Thank you for tour reassurance!
I have it in a fairly bright north facing window, as south was the only other option. |
