Bletilla Yokohama 'Kate'
So it may be too late for this one, but I need some advice.
I bought it early this year and understood that it needed more of a full sun in my area (St. Louis, MO), so I planted it in a full sun area partially shaded by a banana tree. Since its planting, it hasn't done anything except one of the offshoots dying. Any thoughts and recommendations? BTW, I have Bletilla striata in a far more shaded area and it is taking over. Should I move it over there? Paul McMahon Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |
Hey Paul, I have this clone, too, and mine didn't do much the first year after I stuck it in a pot. This year, the second, it sent up many shoots and flowered nicely. I'd give it a little time as the rhizome may be spreading itself underground, if it's doing well you'll probably see some good growth and spikes in the springtime.
I grow my Bletillas in full sun and with very abundant moisture in the summer, both striata and Yokohama have done well with this. I've seen patches growing well in shadier spots, too, I don't think they're too picky once they get established. Hope this helps! |
Thanks everyone! Guess it will be a wait and see game then. My concern was based upon the fact that I bought one last year and saw it do nothing in the ground and not come back this year. So, I bought another and switched locations. I think the dogs may have using the bathroom on or near the original spot... Oops, my bad! LOL...
