Miltoniopsis leaves limp and folding
 

I am having good results with a number of species in the my growing collection but Miltoniopsis is being quite difficult for me. I bought two in flower and they were excellent for a long time, but over the summer I have found leaves limp and folding in on themselves slightly along the central mid rib. One poked out two new growths but they are not moving now and the other has no new pbulbs to be seen.

They are in semi shade and kept evenly moist in CHC mix. Fed lightly every fortnight or so.

what are your temps ? Milts rapidly deteriorate if temps are consistently too high - in the 80s - and if the potting mix is stale. They should be repotted annually.

btw - if by folding, you mean accordion-like then its definitely a watering problem or that your mix is stale and the roots are rotting.

Im going to agree with the above statement, if your roots are rotting, maybe you could do some clean up and zap it with some seaweed extract?

been a hot one in the UK this summer but never above 80.

they are not folding accordion, just length ways a bit.

I repotted in CHC this spring for both after they flowered

Are you letting these dry out between watering? Milts don't like to completely dry and should be watered when still a bit damp. They like to be kept evenly moist (however one achieves that!).

If these are summer temperatures for you, man, I'd love to be there right now! :lol:

It has been shooting up over 100 F here, lately.

Might still be from slight under watering or some slight root damage.

Check the roots.

If grown in CHC, it might've needed a bit more water.

Mltnps is the abbreviation for Miltoniopsis.

Milt is the abbreviation for Miltonia.

No wonder we can't grow Miltoniopsis here at the tropics...

Nah, 85 F is fine.

haha, well I'd like to see the odd 100 day myself. 80 in the NE of England is a very rare thing!

One has a transparent pot and roots seem ok, but scant. The other has a coloured pot - could I take it out and have a look or is it not a good time to inspect?

I might have been shy with the water, but I don't think I ever let them go very dry

@The Orchid Kid, No you do not want to see a odd 100 day its miserable! We have been having 40%-45% humidity with 115* weather ugh you automatically become soaked when you walk out the door to your car...
