ghetto tank

This is my first orchidarium. I must admit my methods are crude at best. I have not been above using various random objects that I had laying around to lift the plants to the perfect light levels. It isn't exactly the most aesthetically pleasing way to grow, but my plants seem to be doing ok.
I use a 250 watt Metal halide as the light source with a large box fan to blow the hot air away from the glass top. I also use a crane cool mist humidifier controlled by a zoomed hygrotherm humidistat. I overkilled the air movement as I have 3 fans running in the tank at all times. Perhaps the equipment isn't ghetto it's the look of the display...lolz  |
Sometimes appearance is not everything:-) It is nice to have gorgeous display, but as far as you can keep your orchids alive, or better thriving and blooming, than go for it! I'm always very happy when checking these that I'm living in Florida, and all my orchids are outside:-)

As always, it is whatever works fou you! Are the plants happy? If so then you have achieved your goal.....Jean

^+1 Yep, couldn't have said it better ;)

Whatever works, it's the results that count!

Hey mine are sitting on a light shade/bright light spot on my porch on a raised cake cooling rack, so I like this idea. Although my Russian Tortoise Sheldon would be quite angry if my orchid had a better set up then he did. lol.

you would be surprised at how many of us have started off in some type of what you call 'ghetto tanks' :waving
I didnt just have a ghetto tank, I lived in mine :bowing There's a progressive pattern I'm starting to see in logic and reasoning with this orchid collection dysfunction. They really should assign a medical code for it so insurance can help us out too  |
