Panarica / Encyclia brassavolae

My first spike on this plant. Reportedly flowers are long lasting, up to several months. In cooler temps flowers are strong scented, obtrusive according to my wife.
Coming from Mexico, it had a cooler drier winter rest and received more water in the spring.
Taxonomists recently moved 6 species out of Encyclia (or Prosthechea) into Panarica.

Very unusual and interesting orchid. It has an elegant quality about it.

Good Gracious! It's magnificent.
Could you please give us more info (light, food?) I have one for two years, it has many, fatter but shorter p/bs, some very short sheaths, but not flowers around.

I have grown mine for about one year under standard Cattleya conditions. The friend who sold this division to me has a greenhouse that is a bit cooler with more humidity, ideal for Laelia purpuratas. I guess that both environments work well. I have also heard that temperatures down to 10°C are needed for flower induction, but I don't let fall the temperature below 15°C. So when your plant is strong enough I would advice a more pronounced cooler drier winter rest.

:) Thank you very much for the info! I have it a little warmer, so this year it will sit next to the Cattleyas, and hopefully one day I will enjoy its flowers.
