Three Vanda (Neofinetia) Falcata Orchid Hybrids

Acquiring Vanda (Neofinetia) falcata has been very exciting. There is so much variety in these plants. Lately I have noticed other plants that were created with one parent being Neofinetia falcata. A week ago, realizing I wasn't going to win some of the more colorful Neos, I started looking around this forum and on eBay where someone posted pictures of Neostylis.

I found a plant on Buy Me Now that was less than US$20. I bought the plant and it arrived today. This is Neostylis Lou Sneary x Neof. fulcata "Kokukuden" the flower is taken from the vendor's website. The plant picture is taken with my iPad. This plant looks like my favorite orchid!<S>

Here is a picture of Cne. Green Light (Chri. vietnamica x Neof. falcata). The picture of the flower is from the vendor's website, the picture of the plant is taken with my iPad. This looks like a large bean leaf Neof. The vendor described the new growths as "keiki".

The third plant I found is the Ascofinetia Twinkle x Neofinetia falcata White Flamingo AM/AOS. The picture of the flower is from the vendor's website, the picture of the plant is taken with the iPad.

Happy family?

My sense is that there are a lot of other similar plants with a Neof. parent. Do you have a similar hybrid (is that the right word?)?

I have a ascf Twinkle and I love it! Its such a tiny plant but aleady has one spike full of blooms and another on the way. It's so very happy and has a lovely fragrance to boot!

Congrats! Your little family is lovely!

Yep, they were among my first nonNoID purchases.
My Vandofinetia White Crane may be getting ready to spike right now actually. Previously thought so, but that was definitely a fan, but this new growth I noticed today  should be the realness!

Check out my Evernote & you tell me if I'm crathy...

Nice haul btw, I also have Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom 'Carmela' that bloomed for me this spring, but was in spike when I got it, so no credit to me... Awesome looking tho!

Enjoy

Oh my gosh they're so cute! I want to try my hand at a falcata also...but only after I've gotten the hang of this growing thing so I don't go and kill the poor thing. I love that twinkle too! Gosh, I've got a wish list a mile long...

I love then all!

Those blooms are so pretty. I hope their fragrance lives up to their looks.

I received a Neostylis Lou Sneary 'Bluebird' three weeks ago. I have it in lava rock in a plastic mesh basket. So far, so good. It's sending roots into the rock like crazy and its new leaf has grown half an inch in that time. I just hope I can keep it alive and get it to bloom.

I believe the term is intergeneric. I have a Neostylis Creampuff.

I looked at your pictures of your Vandofinetia and I think you are right, it must be a spike, as opposed to being a root. Your last picture confirmed it for me. I squared what I see as being the spike and compared it to the root growth below. Please post updates. Your plant looks larger than a Neof.? I'm going to add this plant to my list. I found a flower picture of this plant! Beautiful!

Thanks rangiku. These plants are intergeneric not hybrids? Thank you for your clarification. I was wondering if "hybrid"was the correct term.

Vanda falcata is the genera (?). When you breed one of these plants with another plant, for example, a Hisui 翡翠 "Jade" with a 大波青海 Oonamiseikai "Big Blue Ocean Wave" that is a hybrid, right?

If you breed a Vanda falcata with another plant outside of its genera(?), these plants are called intergeneric. Which is what these plants are called--THANK YOU.

I should look up how these plants are named, I've seen many charts on this subject--that is basic orchid naming conventions. Jayfar has helped me understand why the second name is lower case: Neofinetia falcata not Falcata. But I do not learn from reading those charts, it does not compute. I learn from people like you! Here is a link that I have read so many times. It is helpful, but not memorable:

Yes! Like orange blossoms.
