Second week of the Native Orchid Season

The second week of the season was Fairy Slippers again and we did find one very pale form. Again, these are the Western Fairy Slipper, distinguished by the brown spotting and lack of yellow on the lip:

Amazing pictures. I wish we have orchids growing in situ. Maybe one of these days while walking Central Park, I might encounter some indigenous flowers too.

Thanks, Ashley and Hannah. It's even nicer to see them "in person." I don't know, however, Ashley, if any of the flowers except maybe the Oregon Grape are amenable to cultivation. And, Hannah, we do not have many amphibians out here, so seeing a frog is nice.

Thanks for commenting, Bud. When I'm out hiking I always wish there was someone to whom to show all these wonders. Hope you find something in Central Park.

Great pictures, Ron. I like the Erythronium too, and the strobilus of the Equisetum. We have a very similar Erythronium (albidum) here.

I see that was taken with the 100 mm f/2.8 L lens. I only have a few lenses for my 7D, but I'm convinced that's the best lens I own, even if it's not the costliest.

Thanks for looking and commenting, Steve. That 100mm lens is my favorite, and a superb lens, though my wife has the Tamron 90mm which is almost as good.

Thanks, as always, Rosie. Hope you are well and that the job is going well.

Steve

I have a Canon EF 100mm f2.8 USM macro, and it's a great lens; I also have a Sigma 105mm f2.8, which is also great, but seems a little incompatible with my EOS 5D (worked great with my film 50e).
When did they release the L with IS? It must be AWESOME for in the field macros...!
