Successful pollination at last! (so far)
On a whim, I decided to try cross-pollinating some of my phals with each other to see what would happen. I'm not concerned about a pedigree. I just want to see what I can come up with because I have some really amazing color patterns already.
Anyway, I pollinated six flowers on four plants roughly 24 hours ago, and as of right now two of the pollinations appear to be making good progress. The sepal cavity on both of the flowers has closed up! No signs of any ovary swelling yet, but it's only been a day so let's keep our fingers crossed! Both of the mother flowers were on this Phal NOID: http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...83373381_n.jpg One of the pollen flowers was from this Phal NOID: http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...08667553_n.jpg And the other was from this Phal, which I believe to be a Phalaenopsis Chiada Stacy "Chocolate Drop": http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...09999809_n.jpg Wish me luck! Anyone who has never pollinated before, feel free to ask me how I did it. |
