Brownie or Clustered Lady's Slipper
The photo was taken on an excursion to the Greenwater area north of Mount Rainier last summer. We found ten orchids, but this was the one we had come to see, the rather rare Cypripedium fasciculatum.

Odd little thing.

What a beautiful cypripedium :D
|
How neat! Thank you for showing us this rare beauty. :D
|
Must have been exciting to see!

Thanks, Kim, Hannah, Orchidgirl and Leafmite. It certainly is odd compared to some of the other Cypripediums, but has a beauty all its own, and the thrill of finding these orchids in the wild is hard to describe. I'd recommend everyone join a native orchid society, if there's one in the area, and take the opportunity to see some of our natives.

Ooo! Fabulous!

Thanks, Sonya, gorgeous little thing isn't it?

Never heard of this before. You're pretty crafty.

This is pretty rare even in the areas where it grows.
