Goose Rock and its Orchids

Goose Rock overlooks the waterway between Fidaglo and Whidbey Islands in the San Juans and is a great place for wildflowers and native orchids. There are at least five species of native orchids that grow there. These pictures were taken at different times on Goose Rock and in the surrounding area.

Serendipity and Orchids: Pass Island and Goose Rock

Gorgeous blooms....
You photograph them well for our viewing pleasures....
I must go somewhere tropical, bring my camera and look for orchids in situ....it must be quite an experience

Thanks for looking, Bud. I, too, would like to go to the tropics and see orchids in situ, but it is pretty exciting finding them here also. Hunting for them has become almost as great a passion as growing them.

I second that.

I still enjoy seeing a new orchid bloom here at home, but I don't wait as breathlessly as I once did and check every 15 minutes to see if it's made any progress, but my heart still beats pretty fast when I find a new native orchid or a new location for an old favorite.

For me it's like the well feed cat said. "The thrill is in the chase".
the finds are the cherry on top.

Nice! Makes me eager for spring!

ronaldhanko 02-28-2013 07:05 PM

Oh, we enjoy the chase, too. It means we get out hiking and backpacking more often, equally favorite activities with orchid hunting.
