Know of any distributors with 4N lines?

Does any one know of a distributor that carries several different (4n) species or hybrids. I am looking for breed stock and want to work with the tetrapolids a little. I am wanting to breed my two Sophronitis coccinea (4n) with other species tets.
Any help would be appreciated.

I only occasionally see plants offered for sale that are described as (4n). I think your best bet would be to email some breeders and vendors and ask for help finding the types of plants that you want. For Sophronitis coccinea a good source of information would be Fred Clarke at Sunset Valley Orchids or the owners of Marble Branch Farms. Both of those specialize in small cattleya types. They may be able to help you or at least give you some other names to contact. Good luck.

I know Alan Koch loves his 4N Catts at Gold Country Orchids and you will see a lot of 4N breeding at H&R Orchids. I also understand Oak Hill might be doing 4N breeding with Catts as well, but you should call and ask to be sure.

You'd better have deep pockets, though. Unnamed and unawarded 4n Soph. coccinea sell for $100 on up and proven breeding stock is even more expensive.

Sounds like you should just breed your 4n coccinea together!!

Happy Holidays folks!
In response to my request for suppliers of 4N lines. Thanks again as always! I will definitely be browsing some online catalogs - Maybe time for New Years gifts? Hummmmmm.
As for my breed lines, I paid over $100.00 for one of my coccinea and have no problems with paying for a quality breed stock. I intend to breed the best orc's I can, and any investment now will make that easier down the road.
As far as breeding my coccinea together - I intend to breed them with anything that is not moving too fast! If I can hold the cat down, so be it. By the way, pics of my 1st 4N coccinea to bloom is posted in the Advanced Discussion area - bloomed out today. As you can read - the plant was a large disappointment in flower size and I have an email into the supplier. Love the color, but the bloom is no larger than a 2N. This was the more expensive of the two coccinea and again, not what I thought I would be receiving. The plant is VERY vigorous and seems to have adjusted to my North window with grow light very well; BUT the bloom again is 2N size. Here is a pic -
Attachment 75547 Pretty little Christmas flower, huh?
I love this particular little species of orc and want to see the 4N lines move into re-breeding some of the older successful crosses. Thus I need 4N stock of a variety. We all gotta have a hook I guess and this is mine.
Again - Happy Holidays everyone - Thanks again.
Peace and Joy!

Hi everyone!
I received a late night message from Tom at Golden Gate Orchids. He stated that the 4N coccinea bloom needs about 10-14 days to fully expand and flatten out. He stated that all the soph. bloom small and "grow" into their final size.
I will be photo-documenting the growth of the bloom and will post once it starts getting fuller size.
Thanks! Happy Holidays
