New to site- orchid is growing 2 heavy large stems off maim stems with buds! Help!
 

I moved into my new home a few months ago and all my plants seem to love my bay window. I have a large orchid with white flowers, all of the flowers fell off around a month ago and now 2 new large stems are growing off the 2 main stems. They are heavy with lots of buds- should I get sticks to support them? Also should I cut off old dead growth from the original stems? Thanks!

I think staking them is up to you, in the wild they have nobody there to do it so it won't hurt the plant if you don't, you just won't necessarily get displays like you're used to seeing in stores and online, the spikes will dip down more. Personally I like them that way as well, it's an aesthetic choice. I think the cutting off of the old parts of the spikes is also an aesthetic choice, just make sure you only cut the parts that are brown and dried.

I'm not an expert so maybe someone will chip in with different advice. Please post pics of the blooms when they open, and welcome :)

You can cut any part that is clearly dead. Yoy might want to stake the spike. It's not necessary. I like the look of un-staked spikes if there's room for them. As blooms open, the spike will bow more.
