Is this Rock Orchid a Dead Duck?
1 Attachment(s)
I found this orchid in a pot buried under some wild thorny stuff (asparagus fern) I cleared away in my back yard. I guess it is Thelychiton Speciosis.
I've carefully removed all the asparagus fern from it's roots by rinsing and carefully pulling, put some root hormone on it, and I've repotted it in a six inch diameter shallow pot. That was about 3 weeks ago. Should I bother caring for it?... I mean can it really be salvaged? How long before I would see any signs of rejuvenation? Thanks Gaz |
Just keep caring for it.. orchids require patience (sp?) and this one is obviously still alive and if i'd have to guess i'd say that it will throw out a new growth and some roots in no time. If all of those nice green bulbs go yellow or brown then i'd toss it, but until then i'd just keep caring for it. Let it dry between waterings, this way the roots will have to search for water and they will grow.
Good luck Ben |
Not even close. These are about the toughest orchids in existence and I've brought many back from MUCH worse condition that that. Infact I've had some that I actually threw out in the garden because they were completely dry and dead and had them resprout.
