Don't want to see these on your orchids!!
I think these could wipe out an orchid collection in a few hours. Luckily they're only found in Africa. Let us know if you spot one on your orchids.

At least they would be easy to spot! : )

Jeff, these have become a real problem here in Florida. I heard it on the radio some months back. Here is an article about the invasion of giant African snails. Crazy, right?

Those are gigantic!

 Wow! Bigger than a number of my orchids!

Yum yum, though that must be quite a mouthful, and you probably need a lot of garlic butter to get it down! (No, it's not a myth that the french eat snails, you can even buy them frozen at the supermarket!)

I have first tried the snails in Paris when I was 10 years old on vacation with my parents and also in a French restaurant in New York two years ago....they are both the same taste, texture and chewiness of a bubble gum but with oyster flavors....
that African snail on the picture can be killed by sprinkling it with a bit of salt....in a matter of seconds it will emit 'saliva like' liquid that will melt the salt that will dehydrate it and cause a meltdown of cells |
*Breaks out the 10x loupe to get a visual of the snail...*

Apparently these are often kept as pets. That's likely how the problem began. I saw one on tv guzzling beer on someone's kitchen table. Cute pet, but they better stay away from my beer!

LOL!! Holy!! Thats one big snail - nothing a baseball bat can't cure
