How many Den species do you have?
I just counted mine and I have 25 different Den species.
How many do you have and give us a peek at your list. :) anosmum var alba antennatum bracteosum bullenianum canaliculatum chrysotoxum crocatum cucullatum draconis farmeri findlayanum v oculatum formosae kingianum var album x kingianum lawesii lindleyi loddigesii moniliforme nobile pulchellum speciosum thyrsiflorum trantuanii unicum uniflorum victoriae-reginae I have killed: cuthbertsonii formosae heterocarpum lamyaiae brymerianum mutabile tobaense cyanocentrum masarangense |
I am only just starting off with species orchids in general, but I plan to have a LARGE number of dens! So far I've only got:
trantuanii peguanum subclausum (on its way in the post) The subclausum will be the first orchid I'm going to attempt growing outside on my balcony. It's cold tolerant, but will grow equally well in intermediate conditions. This will cover our Irish winters and summers nicely (I hope). |
I don't have too many Dens, but most are species
atroviolaceum (v pygmy) bigibbum (v compactum) kingianum (tipo and silcockii) victoria-reginae spectabile (seedling) nobile (keikis given to me last summer - one's blooming now) :) have killed: lawesii moschatum (honestly, I had the moschatum a few years, never bloomed, then just up and died) :p moniliforme I had avoided Dens for a while - with so many different types, they seemed intimidating to me, but the ones I have now, at least, are all very rewarding :) |
Well that's an easy question, I only have 2! kingianum and aphyllum. Neither like me, neither want to bloom.
I do have an aberrans on the way, which should be easier since it doesn't need a winter rest. :) |
Let's see...
amabile anosmum chrysanthum findleyanum var. oculatum speciosum aggregatum chrysotoxum griffithianum palpebrae thyrsiflorum fimbriatum var oculatum hancockii moschatum densiflorum bracteosum smilliae plus a bunch of hybrids... huh, never realized I have so many... |
I'm not at all familar with Den species, so I'll have to look all these up! I do want to venture out into Dens a bit more. (which is why I got aberrans)
|
Den. sp. (like delacouri)
Den. amabile Den. discolor Den. elliotianum (aka Den. garrettii) Den. gregulus Den. kingianum Den. lineale Den. longicornu Den. nindii Den. peguanum Den. stratiotes Den. taurinum Den. williansianum (I think, I forgot - they're small seedlings) |
only one....cuthbersonii
was thinking of getting a laevifolium someday |
Kinda missing Den. unicum. Might get one some time soon, idk.
I've been eyeing Den aberrans for a long while. Latouria Dens are something I've been trying to get back into again. I really love the Antelope Dens (aka Spatulata Dens)! I think the hybrids pale in comparison to their species counterparts. Not a huge fan of Formosae Dens, but Den. longicornu is awesome! Another one of my favorite groups are Dens in the section Stachyobium (i.e. Den peguanum, Den gregulus), 'cause most of them are tiny miniatures that fit into any collection easily. |
Oh dang, let's see if I can get these out from memory. I think this is all of the living ones:
nobile parishii loddigesii aphyllum findlayanum moniliforme tortile hercoglossum trantuanii draconis formosum cf. chrysanthum brymerianum lindleyi (incl. one that's prob. Ueang Pheung) jenkinsii lawesii canaliculatum speciosum tetragonum lichenastrum prenticei toressae striolatum wassellii not-wassellii (labeled that but vegetatively very different) linguiforme rigidum anceps equitans clavator Plus probably 8-10 hybrids. --Nat |
