Dendrobium Ellen in flower
 

To be honest I'm not sure if this is Dendrobium Ellen or Dendrobium kingianum 'Ellen'. I believe it to be the former but the growers label was unclear. I'm pretty sure when I bought it the grower told me it was a hybrid of kingianum and that's what Den Ellen is.

It had an attack of blackfly as the buds were forming and some buds did blast as a result. I treated with soapy water and was worried it would damage the flowers but it doesn't seem to have done. (The kingianum alba that I also had to treat did get some flower damage from the soapy water but it's flowers were further developed.

This seems a much stronger and more vigourous plant that the kingianum var album (or the many keikis I have of that). The flowers have more substance than the kingianum as well. It has a keiki of it's own which I will probably try mounted this year. Not as many flowers as my kingianum as had, but they make up for it in their delicate beauty. :biggrin:

There is a delicate purple speckling on the lip and a very faint pink hint on the petals. It is very strongly fragrant with a sweet honey scent. Every time I go in the greenhouse in the morning (and up to mid afternoon) the fragrance fills the entire greenhouse.

Beautiful!! If it really is the hybrid, this particular plant has much less of the tetragonum influence in the bloom shape that the plants I see on internet.

I've seen several pics of Ellen that look similar shape but all of them have more colour in the petals/sepals. I've seen some pink, some yellow but all more colour than mine (though the lip seems quite similar in them).

What ever it is, it's beautiful.
