Using Physan
 

Hi Guys:
I have a plant which I think may have something going on, my local orchid club suggested Physan. I know you dilute it and spray it on, how heavily do you spray? Use a mister spraycan, or more like spray so you can see drops on it? Is this the one time it's ok to get water in a crown or where a leaf joins a shaft? How often is the max you would use it- every time you water? Should I add it to the water every time I water in addition to spraying? Thanks for helping a newbie out!

1) What is "going on" with the plant?

2) What kind of plant - some are more sensitive to Physan than others.

If the issue is an external fungus or bacterial infection, I'd start with 1 teaspoon per gallon and wet every surface of the plant thoroughly. You need not worry about crown rot, as Physan is a disinfectant, but you'd be safer by spraying it in the morning, so it can dry during the day.

Physan.com recommends up to two tablespoons per gallon, but that can be pretty harsh.

even the half teaspoon to a gallon can melt new coming out roots and new budding leaves of my Asc. plant...they are vandacious and quite hardy and robust...so I was quite surprised they didnt like the chemical.
I was able to get rid of the fungi infestation but I might be taken back a season on blooms
