Dendrobium glomeratum (aka. Dend. sulawesiense)

The flowers of this plant are almost 2.5” wide and are long lasting. It is potted in a bark mix in a 4” plastic pot. The flowers can last for months making it a very rewarding species. The canes can get quite long and to control the height, I cut them back to a reasonable length after they mature to be in sync with the other growths with leaves on the plant. The plants will bloom at the end of the cut growth as this plant.
The inflorescence of this species appears in spring and summer on older, leafless growths and has 3 to 10 flowers. This is an early blooming due to the mild winter in my area. They can also have flowers at most any time of year. It grows as an epiphyte above 4000 feet elevation. The flowers are vibrant and long lasting. The plants are normally hanging but can be grown upright with a little staking.
This species grows in intermediate to cool conditions with moderate to moderately bright light. I grow it both potted where it is usually staked up (bark mix or sphagnum moss) or mounted and allowed to grow hanging down. Give it year round moisture with dilute fertilizer. I do not let it stay dry for any extended period of time meaning this plant does not have a rest period.

Very very nice Den! I've heard of it before, but just don't have space for those space hogging long caned Dens. I didn't know that they could be cut down like that and still bloom.
