Is This What I Think It Is?

So I stopped checking my mini phal for any signs of activity about four days ago. Today I thought I'd have a look and see if it has done anything amazing lately and guess what, is this something to be proud of?

I am keeping my fingers crossed until someone says different.

Hard to say without a close-up, but I'd guess new root rather than spike. Sorry.

I was thinking the same thing but I just thought I'd try my luck. Thanks Ray.

Ya, my first impression was a root. That is still something to be proud of.

From what I remember the last time round when I had phals spikes seem to have more room to grow from, they make a bigger rent in the plant where they emerge from and this one is snug. Oh well, I guess every little thing is something to behold.

I'm afraid I'm going with root as well. A light red tint with the very tip being rounded and yellowy green... that says root to me.

Thanks all the same. :(

Susie,

I don't know what your climate is like at this time, but my outdoor phals generally start spiking shortly after the temperatures begin to significantly drop. Living in Florida, my phals only bloom once a year. I don't even look for spikes until November.
