bark seeding
 

ok...after reading some of the posts on seeding and the various ways that its done , I have a couple of questions.
There was an article on "bark seeding" where the seed is sown directly on bark, but with variable resultsbecause of the lack of fungi....could you not use some of the bark nuggets from around the roots of the parent plant as there would be a better fungus prescence?
Another article was saying the fungus needed is on the parent roots....could a root not be sacrificed and the bark "seeded" with smashed root ?
does this seem reasonable?

artificially propagated plants are generally grown without fungus, so using the bark or roots from the parent plant will not help at all.

If you are really hoping to get plants from your seed (rather than just a kick from experimenting) then I would keep away from sowing directly onto bark and try an invitro method instead.

The chances of getting any seed to germinate on bark is minimal and then the very young seedlings would have to survive in hostile surroundings.

It is not impossible to do it but the chances are very small.

Only a few species can germinate, one is the Epidendrum radicans, as described in the site.
