What's the proper watering schedule after repotting?
I was over at a cymbidium grower's site and they suggested that when you repot, hold off on your regular watering schedule for 2 weeks so the plant could heal ( I guess from root removal). A friend of mine has also suggested something similar when he repots: keep the plant shaded, hold off on regular, no heavy watering.
Is misting with my garden hose okay? It's now upper 80s and low 90s so I can't imagine doing nothing for 2 weeks. Do you all think it's better for the plant to get scaled back care? Does 2 weeks sounds right for any orchid? Thanks! |
I go with a regular schedule after repotting. I soak the plant(s) in a KLN and Phyton 27 solution for 5-10 min before and after along with the potting mix I'm using. All my plants do just fine.

The key is to max out the humidity to prevent desiccation while the wounds heal. Probably not an issue in Tampa!
Keeping the plants a bit shadier (also to reduce drying) cannot hurt. |
I am definitely with Ray on this. It is harder in Northern Ca to keep up the humidity in the summer so keeping the plants shaded and light misting are my methods of choice for retaining humidity and allowing the cut roots to heal.
