phrag lindleyanum x caudatum "Geralda"
another oh wow plant when it blooms out :bowing
http://oi54.tinypic.com/dgkt1l.jpg I sure hope it has the long long long petals..I did notice that the ones with the long long long petals seem to get damaged 1st .Lots of petals and plant parts in the pots getting judged that werent attached to the plants anymore. http://oi53.tinypic.com/2nir3g8.jpg no more shows for awhile. plants need to recover and bloom again ;) |
Certainly looking good! We'll look forward to the bloom.
:) |
this was a plant that about 5 people were standing around looking at trying to decide if it was worth 25 bucks :)
If you like it buy it..trying to decide if a plant is worth the money? Its not. Doesn't make any difference whether its worth a thin dime or a silver dollar if you like it... Im happy with this one. I did notice it was planted in lots of sponge rock and very airy bark. The caudatum side Im reading like lots of water just doesnt like being WET all the time like some other phrags. When it gets watered it has to drain very fast and not let it sit on the tiny roots. I been giving water everyday since I got it home and its looking good so far.I had it set in my phrag tank till i read more and OHH nooo..Pulled it real fast after I found out thats not what it wanted..So we see how it does with me watering...I dont think I can over water it once a day but I dont know if thats enough right now either. We see what the blooms look like in a week or so :) |
Gorgeous.
Phrags tend to cost more than some orchids (at least they do in the UK). I've seen besseae hybrids for £60 - £70 and knew I could buy a couple of Cyps for that (which I love just as much). I finally found a gorgeous besseae hybrid for just £30 and that came straight home with me (I know the nursary I got it from breeds besseae hybrids as I've seen the massive parent plants when I visited and I think that's why they don't charge as much as places that have bought them in... good for me anyway  |
disappointment...it has opened partially and no long petals...very short and fat with a big square jawed pouch that looks like it got beat with an ugly stick :)
this one picked lindleyanum whiskers to grow and a pouch of caudatum..You never know with seed grown until you see it grown up..I just buy the caudatum next time |
What a shame, I love the long whiskers but you are right, with seed grown you never know till it flowers.
|
I'm sorry it's not what you hoped for. :(
|
Soooo.....do we get to see a pic of this "ugly" Phrag? ;)

okey and yes pics coming tomorrow. I seem to have a problem getting them from my camera to my thumbdrive, Its me I'm sure..:)
BUT I take that UGLY comment back!!! oh wow!! I didnt know the petals grow after it opens..DOH!! They opened at about 5cm. At this point today 2 blooms have opened and you can see this in the pic up and coming. The 1st blooms petals are at about 15cm curly and very pretty :) I didnt give the bloom enough time to mature. I am NOOB!! how long can I use this excuse?:poke: |
