Difference between Phalaenopsis and Doritaenopsis

I bought a Dtps. Romance Valentine today for $5.00, but it looks like a phal. I live near a greenhouse that drastically reduces the prices when the orchids are finished blooming. The flower spike is 2 feet tall with four branches out from the main stem. What is the difference between a phal and a dtps?

As far as I am concerned and what I recall reading, there is no major difference....

Doritaenopsis is an intergeneric hybrid between Doritis and Phalaenopsis. The genus Doritis was named for Doritis, one of the names for the goddess Aphrodite, the goddess of bountiful love. We should all go out and purchase another Doritis or Phalaenopsis to celebrate Feb 14th!

I believe genus Doritis has been merged into genus Phalaenopsis, so technically, both Doritis and Doritaenopsis would now be Phalaenopsis.

Tho, for myself, a self-confessed Phal killer, I do have one that has been easy to grow and it seems likely it could be a Doritis or Doritaenopsis - it didn't come with a tag, but mostly resembles Doritis. So, at least for my part, the Doritis seem easier to grow.

I just found this Doritis

good info on Doritis

Thanks, everyone. I had never read this information before.

Doritis and Phal (and Dtps) are now all considered Phals. But there is a slight difference between the two. Doritis has more of a cornstack appearance, with wider spacing between the leaves. Dtps, being a hybrid, may or may not show this trait.
