unexpected sheath found just a minute ago

A cattleya intermedia I got in june and mounted has decided to bloom ....well I certinly hope I see it go all the way to blooms without blasting.
It has been growing fair with two new leads prouduced this summer and just about a month ago this one came along just after for some odd reason the entire plant decided to turn loose of the mount and had to be retied..... I finaly got Physan 20 about a month ago and did spray everything jst as a prevention measure and the new roots on everything seem much sturdier now including this one.I was seeing the beginning of some winter black crud on a few new growths and decided I have to go with a good fungicide instead of toying around with them this winter since several do have sheaths and LOL I want to see the sheaths grow well. Surprisingly to me the sheath on this one is bigger than the sheaths on several of my bigger plants so It is without a doubt the happiest out of the lot and is well on the way to convincing me I may need to grow more mounted plants |
Good Growing. I have decided that mounting orchids puts them back to a natural state, the best we can. Even the dying ones perk up. I find all mine do well, catts, dendrobiums, bulbophyllums, epis, encyclias. I think the only thing I haven't tried is oncidium. I'll keep my fingers crossed you get a good bloom. :goodluck:

Congrats on the sheath....is this the catt you mounted on that fantastic piece of wood?

Everyone one on the Ob has had at least a small part in my sucess if not from direct advise or sharing then from posting thier own Oops....or awww %$%# so thanks to everyone on the OB as well! ....lol I had not took it down and soaked it in the sink in a couple of weeks since it had the new lead coming along, and had decided it would be much safer not to move it around untill the new lead was a good size and not take the risk of breaking it or for that matter even accidently bumping it and brusing it. This summer has taught me more paitence in that respect.Mainly because I was lucky enough to have several to observe and lol even have several of the same one,so my bumps, OOPs,and Damnit moments usually did not mean major setbacks, or at least the backup was spared the same thing. Any ways I was thinking it was time for a good saoking and when I got it from behind the light noticed the sheath. The other leaves are still growing and kind of cupped around it and have it hidden just a little ....and I am assuming it is a actual sheath and at this point am pretty sure it is, it could fool me yet and be a third leaf on this oneIntermedia ocassionaly does 3 leaves from what I read, but this one has no other growth with 3 so Im saying sheath. I immediatly hung it back up after taking a quick picture to post and did not take any chances ....LOL did not even try to look closer than the camera would focus.AND LOL with a spike a soak in the sink is too risky. SEE I am learning Put it down John before you break it has much better end results tham aw ^%&%$# |
