Odd spike sites on paphs
I have limited (2), experience in growing my own spikes on paphs. I notice that most spikes emerge from the middle of the plant or from the top. Rather normal in all respects I'm sure.
Spikes DO emerge from other areas. I have a Noid Maude that I was looking at today at what I thought was a new leaf. It was coming out of the wrong place #1, between 2 leaves, then I noticed it wasn't a leaf, but a bud coming from the wrong place. The spike is emerging from the 2nd to bottom leaf..hmmmmm??? I have pics BUT I cant find the cable and I know I left it somewhere.. Is this unusual or just that I haven't seen this before? Tis a cute little green bud regardless of where its coming from |
Are you sure it's a spike and not a new growth?

its a Bud. Has the fuzzy little denticulated edge at the top :)....growths and leaves are smooooth.
and it resembles to me a Seahorse head nodding  |
Never come accross that, but my paph knowledge is also limited.
I would expect new growths to come out from between leaves on older fans (or from the very base of older fans). I guess it decided to flower instead of bothering with the new leaves first :dunno: |
Hmm, as you may remember me saying, I've only started on Paphs this year, but it could explain and odd old 'stem' that I found on the Delenatii plant I bought earlier in the year. When I got it, I noticed a dry 'stalk' (which, to me, could only have come from a flower stem). It had been cut but it'd emerged from in between two new growths. It puzzled me at the time as I thought Paphs came out of the top of the fans, but maybe it's a similar thing to what you've found .....
