New Rupics!
Hey, Guys!
I just received a set of orders that included 7 rupicolous Laelias. They are: Laelia milleri 'Cristiane' x sib Laelia alvaroana Laelia angereri Laelia kleberi Laelia tereticaulis Laelia flava Laelia macrobulbosa The milleri is definitely blooming size (i had to split it into 2 separate plants because it had too many growths to fit in a pot). The others are mainly small seedlings that have awhile to go before they are blooming size. Does anyone have some tips they'd like to share? I believe I have the basics down, but i would love some help regarding winter rest, fertilizing, exactly how much sun they need, etc. Thanks! I'll try and post pics soon. David |
I recently got two rupicolous Laelias from Andys Orchids. They told me to give them high light to almost full sun, if they are acclimated. I put them with my Catts outside and left them in the rock mix they came in. I am not sure what to do during winter but hope others who have been growing these longer have some input on the subject.
I look forward to seeing pics of yours! Shann~ |
Here is a good link to get started How to Grow Rupicolous Laelias . I grow most my rupics the same way i grow my Catts , laelia and encyclias alot of light and msu fertilizer every watering and when it gets into the deep winter months like Jan and feb, i water once a week depending how fast they dry out.

thanks guys--great article, by the way! I'm mainly wondering whether or not i can leave them outside for the winter--i live in zone nine and minimum temps have been low thirties to mid twenties (fahrenheit). Will they be able to brave the cold?
