Droopy Paph. Concolor
 

I bought a paph. concolor over the weekend, and the guy told me that the yellow growth was dying because it was old and that the new growth would toughen up. I have noticed that most of the plant is droopy. What is wrong with this plant? I can't get a refund because the man told me that he didn't know how I was taking care of the plant. I have also noticed that the leaves are really thin anf flimsy. Why is this? I watered today because it looked dry and the pot was light. I let it soak for about 5 minutes just in case the plant hadn't been properly watered in the hot greenhouse. Thanks in advanced for any help.

repot it and check the roots...what do the roots look like?

the media might be broken down...repot will take care of a lot of questions and it not going to hurt it any...

the soft leaves would to me indicate it cant get any water to them bec the root system has been compromised..

if its been getting too hot or too much light combined with not enough water has the same effect...

I would bet you got no roots to support the plant..you do have some black tips on the leafs and a large black spot growing on a new shoot...no roots and too much water would be my immediate choise to investigate...

Are you sure that repotting it won't kill it? I really don't want to lose it bcause it was the only one that I could find locally. What happens if I take the plant out of the pot and It has no roots? How will I be able to save this plant?

Based on the photos, I really don't see much to be concerned about. Your seedling looks quite healthy...I have killed a few Paphs before due to underwatering, and I assure you that yours is not suffering from that. By all means do look at the roots, though. It will not harm the plant to gently tap it out of its pot about halfway and have a peek. Bear in mind that Paphs don't put out super-extensive roots systems in the way, say, a Phal will...but what roots you do see should be firm and fuzzy.

PS thin leaves indicate an orchid prefers higher air humidity, and/or has been grown in a humid environment. There's nothing wrong with this, but it does mean that your seedling will be prone to drying out in a non-humid environment. Watch for areas of browning on the leaves if this happens.

Thanks for the info. I had no idea that thin leaves meant high humidity. It must be because the leaves need more oxygen. Anyways, I will most likely take a look at the roots on Friday because it is raining here in virginia and I hate doing orchid things in the house. Everything gets messy. What happens if there are no roots on the plant? What should I do? Thanks again for all of your help.

I also have a new post that I have been waiting to unvail for about a month now. I am so happy my first bloom ever. It is a plant that I have had for about 2 to 3 months now. I am soo happy. Watch for the post. It should be coming up soon. Estimation 2 weeks.
