My understanding is that a keiki is a baby growing from the mother plant. I'm sure I've seen a post of two referred to keikis. A node....good question.

A node is a point on a stem where a leaf or sheath or bract occurs, and where a flower or branch or new growth may come from.

keikis are plantlets ....

A node is the point at which leaves are and usually have a swelling or "joint' there.....internodes are the spaces in between nodes.

Think of these terms in reference to yout index finger ....your knuckle is a node and from there to the next knuckle is a internode.

Best description I've heard! Makes it easy to picture.

I have mostly heard the term "node" applied to phalaenopsis flower spikes, referring to the little flap of tissue (a bract) adjacent to the point of blossom growth.

"Keiki" is, indeed, a plantlet. The word is Hawaiian for "baby".

Keiki could mean Baby plant, and the monopodials and dendrobiums have them.
They could be on spikes, or the plant itself.

Nodes are the round bumps along spikes that have a sheath covering

I always heard that keiki was Hawaiian for "little prawn."

there's also a glossary right here on Orchid Board. it has a fairly large list of orchid-related terms that you might want to know.
