Hi Elermore, have you had it for very long or is it a recent acquisition? Sometimes a plant will shed flower buds when it is moved (especially from a greenhouse to a shop then to a home) - so we need more info to help you!

Sudden changes in environment (temperature and/or humidity) are the usual causes for bud drop in an other wise healthy plant.
If the heat just went on for example, it may be a humidity issue... |

Hi Hedge My plants have been in the house all winter, varying between 14.5c and 20c humidity avg.,55% its not all plants but it's annoying at show time , thanks for your support......regards Elermore

Hi Elemore, do you use any gas burning heaters, or are the orchids near ripening fruit? Have you kept them well watered? Have you kept them under good light?
|
Has the weather suddenly changed to be much cooler? I'm thinking maybe a draft from the door or some such - any other symptoms on your phal hybrids that could be down to scale insect ( small sticky brown patches on leaves and stems) ? Or have there been sudden bright spells where direct sunlight through the window could have caused the buds to wither?

Hi, As well as all the above ....
Another possible cause of bud blast is fruits in the same room as the bloomed spikes... |

I know of old Bananna's causing aging in other fruits and I've heard they can affect flowers as well.
The temps seem quite cold for Phals, mine have those sorts of temps in the winter and they go dormant in those temps. I would think the cold is stopping the flowers developing correctly as the plant tries to conserve energy in the cold. |
