Dark spots on cattleya leaves
Hi!
I have some very dark spots on a hybrid (L. purpurata werkhauseri x C. whitei coerulea). The plant have just arrived (today) from Germany, wrapped in paper for 1 week in extreme weather (around 37 C during the day). The vendor is a serious one, they work with Floralia in Brazil. I don't want to accuse them of something they can't control (like summer heat...) Could this spots be the result of the hot weather or lack of air? Can I treated somehow? The dark area is not mushy, but I really don't know what it is... http://thumb18.webshots.net/t/83/83/...8LLMvRR_th.jpg http://thumb18.webshots.net/t/82/82/...8cHjtHw_th.jpg http://thumb18.webshots.net/t/83/83/...8DOKunZ_th.jpg http://thumb18.webshots.net/t/85/85/...8lgLxAV_th.jpg The other plant I bought from the same vendor, L. Purpurata werkhauseri (ardosia x ardosia flamea), in the same parcel, looks better, but also have spots. Not so dark and they are different. http://thumb18.webshots.net/t/82/82/...8VzgWnC_th.jpg http://thumb18.webshots.net/t/76/76/...8fAITsB_th.jpg Please, a little help! Thank you very much!!!! |
Hi Nico
I'm not positive, but to me the last two pix at least look like burned foliage (I have lots of experience with burned foliage unfortunately). I don't really know about the others - I'm sure more people will chime in |
looks like damage from extreme heat during shipping....they will probably recover.....one of the challenges and hazards of shipping this time of year.....gl

I agree with the others about the spots , and you have pretty cockatiels. I have 2 ,did raise them several years ago .

I feel so much better now... :)
I haven't see a lot of burned foliage on my catts, because I keep them indoors (this year I put them on my balcony for the first time). I wasn't sure about the last two pics, but sun/heat burn it was my first guess. I'll keep my eye on them and hope for a soon recovery. At least for L. Purpurata. Thanks a lot! My cockatiels are pretty and very smart, Gin, but they are savage  Only the chicks (4 until now) have been tamed and now they are happy to live with a friend of mine. :) |
