Brassia Arania Verde - another of my new orchids at the weekend

So this was more of an impulse buy than my other purchases at the weekend. I just love these spider flowers though.

The plant has a nice big lead growth forming as well as the more mature p-bulbs.

Very nice Brassia! That's the thing with shows, it's much easier to give in and buy something impulsively than when you shop on internet! I guess the other orchids you bought felt like they needed more company for the ride home and invited this one to jump in the bag. :)

Thanks everyone,

Camille, I had a nice collection of them on the back seat on the journey home so they all had good company. I had planned ahead and taken this card tray I have with a plastic inset designed to hold eight 12cm plant pots. It worked really well and they all sat snuggly and altough I sat next to them in the back to make sure they were OK they didn't actually move a bit.

Oh, yeah... I forgot to ask...

Anyone know how I care for this guy. I don't have a clue what I'm doing with these, except a very general idea of care for Oncidium/Odontoglossum care. Any specifics I should know for Brassia?

Triffid 06-09-2010 07:49 AM

Did like this one.... Next time.

Not sure of specifics of care for this particular one, but have notes for:

Brassia antherotes:
Humidity = normal (mid range I guess)
Light = Half-shade
Temperature = temperate to cold
Dormant period = yes
Fertilizer = plenty please.
Notes: Grows vigorously

Brassia verrucosa:
Humidity = normal
Light = Shaded to Half-shade to Sunny (likes them all apparently)
Temperature = temperate to cold
Dormant period = yes
Fertilizer = plenty during growing period (same with water).
Notes: Observe dormant period, but don't let it get too cool.

Some one else should know more, but it's a start. ;)

Thanks Triffid that gives me something to go on.

This one was my last purchase, I had kept thinking about it and finally before we left I got one, I think just after we had said goodbuy to you. I'm really glad I did as I just love it.

I wonder what you would have got next if you'd stayed longer... you know you still had 3 empty spots in that tray, Rosie :biggrin:
