Propagating seed from vanilla pod?

I know the answer is probably that it is unlikely to work and if it did cuttings are much easier but has any one ever propagated seeds from a vanilla pod from the supermarket? 1st problem is that pods are treated to bring out the sweetness so this may kill the seeds. 2nd the amount of time pods have been stored may be a factor. 3rd orchid seeds are never exactly easy (at least for me). But still as I was scraping all those lovely little black seeds out of a vanilla pod the other day the idea was tempting.

Has anyone here tried it? Did anyone have results?

Vanilla Pod from supermarkt has no viable seeds. These pods have been fermented in order to improve the fragrance and taste of vanilla...
